John Conyers, III (JC3) is a lifelong Detroiter running for State Senate to make Michigan more affordable, grow the economy in a way that lasts, and restore trust in government.
John's experiences growing up taught him early on that the difference between getting ahead and falling behind is often access, not effort. He is the child of an incarcerated par
ent. He has buried family members lost to gun violence. Growing up and seeing very different economic realities within the same city and his own family shaped how he approaches public service: focused on lowering everyday costs, creating real opportunities people can build their lives around, and making government work in clear and accountable ways.
John is a graduate of Detroit’s Renaissance High School and studied philosophy at Morehouse College and The New School. His professional work has centered on political strategy, communications, and economic development, with a focus on practical solutions and long-term impact rather than short-term wins.
Outside of his professional work, John spends time on the basketball court and mentors young people on life skills, leadership, and navigating adulthood with confidence and purpose.
He is running for State Senate because Michigan needs direction, not noise — leadership that reduces instability, rebuilds economic power, and makes state government deliver results that move families forward.
